FANUC America Authorized System Integrator EDM Intelligent Solutions has developed an extremely versatile automated solution for 3D Metrology Inspection of parts, using a FANUC six-axis robot to control the inspection – EDM’s RSH-M10 Robotic Metrology Inspection System.
The robot used for the inspection process is FANUC’s compact M-10iA/12S short arm robot. This FANUC robot holds a high-resolution 3D optical sensor while the sensor performs scanning and capture of 3D measurement datasets based on part ID.
The RSH-M10 Robotic Metrology System is being used by part OEMs to replace traditional CMM inspection. The cell allows for direct comparison of the actual scanned part geometry back against the original 3D solid model of the part. This scan versus model difference shows any discrepancy instantly, and can be used to set up easy pass/fail inspections in full production environments. Each 3D dataset that is captured allows the user to inspect form, roughness and GD&T all in one system. The data that is gathered using the RSH-M10 system allows users to improve manufacturing process, thus reducing the amount of time required for quality control of production.
Each RSH-M10 Robotic Metrology System is modular, and can be customized in terms of table size, automatic work holding and optional rotary tables fully integrated in the cell. The intuitive user interface of the metrology cell allows for engineers to set up part inspection routines, and then only allow operators to run certain routines based on barcode ID.
