Video: Omron D4SL-N Interlock Switch

In this video, Dean Anderson introduces us to the D4SL-N Mechanical Interlock Switch from Omron Automation. The D4SLN is a compact mechanical interlock switch that is available in either a mechanical locking or solenoid locking version. A broad range of contact configurations are available for the safety contacts, door monitoring contacts and solenoid monitoring contacts. A variety of operation keys are available in straight, bent or pivoting versions to accommodate the door geometry for your application. The D4SLN is designed to reduce the installation time for both the mechanical mounting and electrical hook-up time. Mounting time is reduced because the switch body is designed to allow the entire switch body, including the operation key engagement slot, to be rotated in 90 degree increments without removing the head of the switch from the body. This is accomplished with 2 sets of perpendicular mounting holes which allow the switch to be mounted to any side of the switch body. Electrical installation is reduced by providing a removable terminal block that can be pre-wired separately from the switch body. After wiring the control cable to the removable terminal block the terminal block and cable assembly can then be plugged into the switch body for a quick connection. Alternatively, a prewired factory connector and cable assembly is available that can be plugged directly into the switch thereby eliminating the need to terminate the wires at the switch completely. An optional slide key assembly is also available for the D4SLN. This assembly provides a mechanical guide for the operation key on light weight door applications. The slide key mechanism can be easily mounted to aluminum extrusion profiles. Another feature of the slide key mechanism is an integral lock out key. This lock out key is provided to prevent workers from being trapped inside a work cell without using a padlock. When the door slide mechanism is in the open position, the operator can simply remove the lock key from the slide mechanism. The slide mechanism is now locked in the open position. The lock key is held by the machine operator thereby preventing the operator from being trapped inside the work cell by another person. Upon exiting the work cell the lock key can be returned to the slide mechanism and release the slide to allow the interlock key to be inserted into the D4SL-N switch body. The D4SLN safety door switch can be used in conjunction with one of several Omron safety monitoring relays, safety controllers, or the Omron NX safety plc platform. Video: Omron PYF/P2RF Push-In Relay Sockets

In this video, Rick Hillmer will be introducing us to the new Omron PYF-PU and P2RF-PU Push in relay sockets. The new PYF-PU and P2RF-PU are push-in terminal sockets designed to complement the existing PYF and P2RF screw terminal sockets. This new technology from Omron enables you to simply push-in your wire; no screw loosening means a maintenance-free application. This type of connection is vibration resistant and can decrease the wiring time for each component by 60%. These sockets also include an integral lock/release lever, saving time and component count. The PYF-PU series accepts the same products as the existing PYF series, plus the new line of H3Y and H3YN timers. These relay sockets are just part of Omron’s Value design products line of panel building components. These sockets, along with new timers, counters, IO blocks, PLC’s, and Power supplies have been designed with a unified height and depth to save panel space and possibly reduce overall panel size. Using this unified height allows you to optimize the space in between wiring ducts, also allowing for better heat flow. Video: Omron E5C Series Temperature Controllers

In this video, Lindsey Shepard gives an overview of the E5C Series of Temperature controllers from Omron Automation. The E5C series will save you time and effort in set-up and operation while enabling faster and more accurate monitoring and control of your process. The high-contrast, white LCD display contributes to the exceptional clarity and readability of the E5-C series. The large display can be read from greater distances and multiple vantage points. Coupled with auto tuning algorithms which greatly reduce set-up time, Omron’s CX-Thermo support software was designed specifically for use with this series of temperature controllers. This enables faster parameter set-up, simplified device adjustment and maintenance. The USB Serial conversion cable eliminates the need for a power supply to program the device. The power from the USB port can power up the controller when using the CX Thermo software. With a few clicks of the mouse, you can download your parameter into any omron e5-c series controller. This series offers a unique performance with a fast 50 milli-second sampling period for fast and precise regulation. Omron’s 2-PID control is a key advantage offered over standard controllers. It uses a powerful algorithm, which has a major impact on the control stability, and the quality of your products. Various models and sizes are available including the E5CC which has a depth of only 60mm. The E5GC measures only 48 by 24mm and can be group mounted either horizontally or vertically. The E5DC features a 22.5mm width body and DIN-rail mounting capabilities. This is an ideal option for applications where multi-zone control is needed along with communication to a PLC or touchscreen. The E5DC also has a removable terminal block for easy mounting and replacement. If the controller wears out, all you have to do is remove it from the base and insert the new controller eliminating the need for re-wiring. With Key features like simplicity in operation, 50 milli-second sampling period, and the ability to handle multi-function input and output types, - combined with Omron’s patented 2-PID control, the e5c series sets a new standard in fast and precise temperature regulation. This thing is awesome! It has vision, motion, and logic control all in one. Ok, used to be you’d have a machine, you have a PLC, vision system, a few axis of motion, along with the motion controller, the trouble was integrating that all together. You had to get the vision system to talk to the PLC, the PLC to talk to the motion controller, on top of that you had separate software all trying to integrate together. Omron has hit it out of the park with this. What they’ve done is they integrated all of that into one unit; everything is done with one software package inside of one controller. To give you an example of an application that we’ve worked on with this, we had cookies coming down a conveyor randomly placed. We need something so we used vision system to capture the coordinates, we then used the motion side of it to go out and pick the cookies up, and the logic was involved in picking them up and placing them in a package. Let’s start with the network connections on the front of the NJ here; you’ve got Ethernet/IP which is standard industrial protocol Ethernet. You connect to your touch screens, factory network, laptop if you need to do some programming. Then we get down to etherCAT which is an extremely, high speed, digital, communications BUS. Let’s follow this cable here, we’ll look at some examples of what you can do, follow it down you can see that it goes into an I/O module. So you’ve got high speed, digital I/O. From there we follow, were going over here into an etherCAT switch. From there we are going out into 2 separate servo drives. The way this is different from other PLCs on the market is your motion controller is inside of your controller basically. On anything else you have to put a motion controller card on the side which is quite expensive and very limited, and what this can do all very high speed through the etherCAT. EtherCat is extremely fast, were look at scan time of around 100 milliseconds with less than 1 millisecond of jitter. If you have the need for a PLC, type motion control, incorporating a vision system the Omron NJ series is the way to go.
