Video: Omron D4SL-N Interlock Switch

In this video, Dean Anderson introduces us to the D4SL-N Mechanical Interlock Switch from Omron Automation. The D4SLN is a compact mechanical interlock switch that is available in either a mechanical locking or solenoid locking version. A broad range of contact configurations are available for the safety contacts, door monitoring contacts and solenoid monitoring contacts. A variety of operation keys are available in straight, bent or pivoting versions to accommodate the door geometry for your application. The D4SLN is designed to reduce the installation time for both the mechanical mounting and electrical hook-up time. Mounting time is reduced because the switch body is designed to allow the entire switch body, including the operation key engagement slot, to be rotated in 90 degree increments without removing the head of the switch from the body. This is accomplished with 2 sets of perpendicular mounting holes which allow the switch to be mounted to any side of the switch body. Electrical installation is reduced by providing a removable terminal block that can be pre-wired separately from the switch body. After wiring the control cable to the removable terminal block the terminal block and cable assembly can then be plugged into the switch body for a quick connection. Alternatively, a prewired factory connector and cable assembly is available that can be plugged directly into the switch thereby eliminating the need to terminate the wires at the switch completely. An optional slide key assembly is also available for the D4SLN. This assembly provides a mechanical guide for the operation key on light weight door applications. The slide key mechanism can be easily mounted to aluminum extrusion profiles. Another feature of the slide key mechanism is an integral lock out key. This lock out key is provided to prevent workers from being trapped inside a work cell without using a padlock. When the door slide mechanism is in the open position, the operator can simply remove the lock key from the slide mechanism. The slide mechanism is now locked in the open position. The lock key is held by the machine operator thereby preventing the operator from being trapped inside the work cell by another person. Upon exiting the work cell the lock key can be returned to the slide mechanism and release the slide to allow the interlock key to be inserted into the D4SL-N switch body. The D4SLN safety door switch can be used in conjunction with one of several Omron safety monitoring relays, safety controllers, or the Omron NX safety plc platform.
